The objectives of the First Forum the International on Diversidad and Interculturalidad are:
- 1. Implement a space for meeting, communication, and progress in the spheres of intercultural relations, diversity, and the alliance of civilizations, which will promote participation, dialogue, innovation and the formation of cooperation dynamics between civil society and government institutions in different regions of the world, promoting interculturality as a factor in social development.
- 2. Facilitate the communication of social experiences in the aforementioned space, thereby contributing to the definition of public policies and new approaches or ways of working, as well as their development by public administrations, directly or via international organizations; by this means a contribution will also be made to the emergence of new focuses, ideas and themes for reflection related to the challenges presented by cultural diversity.
- 3. Support the incorporation of policies related to cultural diversity and interculturality into local and state administrative agendas, as well as into other organizations in civil society.
- 4. Promote the application of logical frameworks for the programmes, stimulated by public administrations and international organizations, and in particular those established by:
- 4.1. The United Nations, in two fields: UNESCO, within the sphere of intercultural and interreligious dialogue, and the guiding principles established in the Action Plan (2007-2009) of the Alliance of Civilizations;
- 4.2. The European Union and its declaration that the year 2008 would be the " European Year of Intercultural Dialogue", by means of Decision Nº 1983/2006/EC of the European Parliament and Council (18th of December, 2006);
- 4.3. the European Council in its programme "Intercultural cities: governance and policies for diverse communities"
