The Permanent Observatory on Interculturality that Intercultural Córdoba proposes to implement is planned as a key tool that will contribute decisively to the continued existence and development of the initiative. It is, first and foremost, a networked knowledge community, open and collaborative in nature, involved in a constant process of dynamization, building and innovation. Its primary objective is the tracking, analysis, projection and coordination of a number of previously selected evaluation areas for the observation of social change.
To achieve this objective, the Observatory will carry out as many activities as it deems necessary to identify situations of diversity and interculturality in our society and will observe and track these situations.
The Permanent Observatory on Interculturality is not intended to be merely a technical unit that studies and analyzes the situation of the new global citizens or of the particular features of societies by regional areas within the framework of cultural diversity, nor is its aim to focus on a single aspect of diversity (e.g., migration, education, employment), or to look for new training methods for the multicultural educational community. The Observatory is essentially designed to work using a cross-cutting approach, to systematically include values, attitudes and other components with a high degree of social importance that would affect citizens and intercultural coexistence.
Thus, the Observatory will provide material of strategic value for use in developing different public policies relating to coexistence and interaction in the intercultural frameworks of the twenty-first century.
As an instrument intended to serve both public policies and the private sector, the Permanent Observatory on Interculturality will supply the information necessary to design the new formulas for the management of diversity that today?s scenarios require. It will provide all of the elements necessary to develop the most effective diagnoses and indicators for coexistence, to identify the best experiences and to be prepared to recommend or develop the methodology essential to managing cultural diversity.
